Our Workshop

Throughout the professionally led, therapeutic workshop, every participant creates a handmade piece of art the size of a postcard that will become a gift of solidarity for a survivor. Each postcard contains a message of empathy and your personal wisdom that will help aid the healing process.  All postcards are archived and shared with domestic violence shelters nationwide or placed in our Traveling Heart hospital bags.

How long is a workshop?

Each workshop last for 90 minutes. We expect participants will stay for the entire time. Workshops are professionally facilitated and have a beginning, middle and end.  Everyone completes a beautiful card and everyone wishes they had more time!

How many people are in a workshop?

Workshop groups are typically no bigger than 10 people. We prefer a more intimate setting that encourages safe group sharing and witnessing. Larger groups can be accommodated with pre approved planning.

What if I am not an artist?

You absolutely do not need to be an artist to participate! Creativity is for all of us and you will find a sense of peace and centeredness throughout this healing arts workshop.

What happens during the workshop?

We typically have a long table set with beautiful art supplies and a blank postcard in front of every seat. A facilitator will guide the workshop offering gentle instruction throughout the session. You are encouraged to choose anything you want from the table to make your card unique. You do not need to be an artist in order to participate. Participants find that making something with your hands and witnessing and honoring others in the group is calming and joyful. Conversations are welcome but most find engaging with their art making to be a inward and meditative experience.

How much does it cost?

Workshops are free to aid agencies working with survivors. Please visit our Get Involved page to learn more about your specific group costs.

What if I don't identify as a survivor?

Everyone is welcome and everyone has compassion, empathy and strengths to share. Traveling Postcards™ programs focus on remembering the heart, reminding us to trust our innate power and speaking out against what is unjust.

What Our Participants Say

Diana Soto.jpeg
“The Traveling Postcards workshop was an amazing, empowering and transformative experience. It was an incredibly safe space, where I felt supported and empowered to use my trauma to give support to other survivors. Through this workshop I was able to more clearly identify my own feelings around my assault. I also left feeling incredibly empowered, having given a future survivor a gift of love and encouragement."
